SEPTEMBER 2020

UFF DA!

Well, the world is still pretty crazy! We've had projects and a board meeting to try to line out what this year will somewhat look like. The biggest thing we need for everyone to do and realize is STAY FLEXIBLE, this year will be much different than the rest, so here is our basic plan.

  1. The LSFD Board voted to suspend Dancer practices until the USD #400 school board reconvenes in October. This will give a chance for school and activities to get started. We did not want Dancers to be the reason for any possible disruptions for quarantines or having school or sports canceled, so we'll see how the start of school goes first. We will let you know after that BOE meeting what will happen then.

  2. There WILL be fiddler practice that starts on September 9th and will continue each Wednesday evening at 7PM. I have a message into the Sundstrom as the Lindsborg Community Hospital said they would sponsor community groups to use this facility. With a large group of fiddlers starting from scratch and needing to get them going and the fact that they can socially distance and mask to avoid quarantine if something should happen, we thought this was best. Again, anyone that has any kind of strings experience past 9th grade, needs to send Mandy Francisco an email ASAP, please don't make her track you down, maynaard@msn.com. Because of a large shortage of strings players, the Board voted that anyone that has this experience needs to help out as we are a service organization with what we need to make this organization function. At this point in time, we have a PLETHORA of girl dancers in particular. This does not mean that you will NEVER dance again, but it does mean that we need you to help pitch in, so every girl that wants to can take a turn dancing. We graduated a large group of senior strings players and of boy dancers, so we really need females that have strings experience to help out.

  3. Fundraisers are going to look different. Obviously, we have some committees that didn't end up having to do much last year and we need to adjust what our fundraisers look like for this year. That being said, please take this survey, https://forms.gle/UxvZvwPjYTfBuZaXA so we know what kind of items you would like to do for fundraisers and what is needed. Again, please be flexible in what you are used to your committee doing, things are different this year. I will get with you ASAP based on survey results. Please complete by Wednesday, 8/26.

  4. Please also confirm new board members for this year via the survey. https://forms.gle/UxvZvwPjYTfBuZaXA

  5. Sweden is obviously still up in the air even for next summer. If we end up not going again, this year's seniors will have the same option of getting their money back at the end of the school year if it doesn't happen. The board would like to be able to make a definite decision by February of 2021 on this. While we didn't go on a trip this year, please keep in mind, we have no idea what prices will be like when international travel does finally open back up, so we'll stay with the fee schedule as is for now. This is all for the most part still completely out of our control unfortunately, so many of your questions still don't have answers. And as an answer, problem solver, it drives me crazy, so I apologize in advance, I wish there was more we could do.

  6. Red Wheel sales will start on September 30th. Most likely I will just have forms at school that you'll be able to pick up if you wish to participate in sales. Check back for more updated information on this.

  7. Physical scrip cards will no longer be placed, other than one date that ensures delivery for the Christmas season. It costs $8 for the organization to have them mailed to us and often times that doesn't cover the financial gain for the individual placing the order. Please use the electronic options for getting those gift cards and start planning ahead for your Christmas orders.

  8. Many of you never submitted a Committee guideline form to me, or at least in the correct final format/version, or it got lost in the shuffle. This is going to be a big problem possibly for next year as people leave the group that had knowledge that new people won't have, because this coming year will be so different. PLEASE DOWNLOAD your own copy to make for your group based off of what last year looked like, so the information is there and then send to myself and your project mentor so this knowledge can be passed along and we're not starting from scratch. If you don't see one on your committee page, I need one.

  1. Please update the contact info sheet on the website if there are any errors for yourself or information needs to be added. https://www.lsfd.info/contacts I will only leave this open for editing until Wednesday, so please jump on it. Addresses are nice to have on there when people need to drop things off.

  2. MUM SALES! New Venture with the Lindsborg Greenhouse! Mums are $9 for an 8" and $18 for a 13". You will make somewhere between $4- and $7 per sale, the large markup is in the 8". We're trying to give you all more options for individual fundraising and like partnering wih a local business. I've attached the order form you can print. Orders will be due back on September 13th, by your inputing your total $ for any that you have sold into this document:

You will need to turn in your money to Margo Lysell by next Sunday the 13th and have your order forms updated on the website. Exact delivery dates/times will be known once we submit the order. I do not need your individual order forms, so keep those so you have the information for when you deliver, just make sure you total things up correctly on the google doc.

MUM ISSUES!!!!

The Lindsborg Greenhouse could not fulfill our order. Their supplier basically said tough luck and could only fill part of it and only yellow. After a meltdown on my part, fortunately the Ahlstedt family was to the rescue. A huge thanks to Steve Ahlstedt and his mother Shirley who is a manager at Stutzman's to save the day. They can fulfill our order! That being said, because of the last minute notice, your profits will not be the same. They had to charge us $6.50 for the small ones and $13 for the large. They didn't even have to do that, so I am ridiculously grateful to them, they are LIFESAVERS!!!!!! Please extend great thanks to the Ahlstedt family, they helped LSFD tremendously be stepping up.

As for pick up, here's the deal. If you sold mums, you need to arrive at the high school parking lot at 9AM on Saturday, September 26th. The more people you bring the better to get the mums unloaded. From there, we will sort mums into colors and then you will start filling your orders.

YOU kept your order sheets, so it is a must that you bring those next Saturday. If you want to arrange for anyone that you sold a mum to to pick it up directly from the high school, tell them that pick up time starts at 10AM, you will need to stay until your mums have been taken care of. So, if you want to give them a window of 10AM-11AM, YOU need to plan on staying until that time or until all of your mums have been picked up.

THANK YOU STUTZMAN'S!!!!!

  1. THIS SATURDAY, September 12th, you have a unique fundraising experience opportunity. Smoky Hill Vineyards and Winery is looking for people to help pick grapes. They are paying $.15 per pound.
